Mama Africa

This was used as the title of a compilation CD released in 2001.

Wikipedia, citing an article published in 2012 in The Journal of South African and American Studies, tells us that Ms. Makeba herself claimed that "she accepted [this] label" around 1977, when her popularity in the United States was on the wane and she returned to perform more regularly on her home continent.

Elsewhere, Wikipedia states that "she was variously described as the 'Empress of African Song', the 'Queen of South African music', and Africa's 'first superstar'.

Britannica also states that Miriam Makeba "became known as Mama Afrika".
